Born, raised and educated in Tokyo, I moved to the UK in 2003 to begin a teaching career at a Japanese School in Derbyshire for 20 years. I started calligraphy at the age of six, achieving my first dan at the age of twelve, resuming my studies in 2007 to achieve the highest level, eighth dan, in 2023.

ARTIST PROFILE

Born, raised, and educated in Tokyo, Japan, I worked as an editor before coming to the UK in 2003.

In the UK, I have worked at the Japanese School in Derbyshire for 20 years, initially as a teacher and for the final eight years as head teacher. I began teaching Japanese as a foreign language to UK citizens in 2007.

As a calligrapher, I was influenced by my mother, who attained the rank of master in the 1970s.

I started calligraphy at the age of six and achieved my first dan at the age of twelve. I resumed my studies in 2007 in the UK and achieved the highest level, eighth dan, in 2023.

I am an associate instructor in Japanese calligraphy, a certified teacher of Japanese as a foreign language, and hold a BA in English and American Literature. I am DBS cleared.
